Steinþór has taught at the Design and Architecture Department since 2003. His emphasis, both in his work as an architect and teacher, has been on exploring the relationship between urban spaces and architecture and how our environment can be improved and sharpened through good architecture. 
As well as being part of IAA faculty Steinþór has run the practice Kurtogpí along with Ásmundur Hrafn Sturluson since 2004.
