With joy and pride, we announce that the International Piano Competition and Summer Course held last August will be held again in the summer of 2026.

The project is the result of a strong collaboration between WPTA and OPNA LHÍ, and has already attracted a lot of attention for its professional setting and exciting opportunities for young pianists.

You can watch a video from the competition here.

The next competition and course will take place from August 4 to 16, 2026., and the piano competition itself will take place from August 14th to 16th in the Hall.

The name of the competition is "WPTA Iceland IPC26 & Summer Festival @ Salurinn Concert Hall & Iceland University of the Arts" and we hope that this ambitious project will become even more established in the coming years.

The competition is divided into three categories and a total of 500.000 ISK (3500 euros) in prize money is awarded to outstanding musicians, both Icelandic and foreign. The prizes are generously sponsored by Tónastöðinn and Steinway.

The application deadline for the competition is June 10, 2026.

In addition, an international summer course will be held in collaboration with the Open University of the Arts and the Kópavogur School of Music from August 4 to 16, 2026. The program will include master classes and student concerts in the Hall, where experienced artists and teachers share their experience and knowledge with young and interested people.

The project is a unique opportunity for young pianists aged 10–25 to participate in an international competition and study in Iceland, laying the foundation for further development in their art.

In addition to WPTA and Open LHÍ, the main sponsors of the competition and course are: Salurinn, Kópavogur Music School and Kópavogur Town.
