Application Information

IUA employs a standard electronic application form.
 
The application process is in two steps. First applicants fill out the application form, pay the application fee and submit the application. Secondly, applicants receive confirmation that IAA has received the application. Please note: It is possible to save the application while working on it. 
It is necessary to include a passport photo with the application. 
 
 A portfolio should be handed in to the relevant department office or sent by mail. If sent by mail, the date should be no later than the final day of the application period.

 

The Application

An application is not valid until the applicant has submitted the application and paid the application fee. Applicants must submit the following documents:        
 
1. Certified copy of programme / course transcript(s) (PDF)
a) Applicants should submit a detailed record of previous education (final examination or university entrance examination) from secondary education up to the present, including programmes of study taken and grades achieved. This may be submitted in Icelandic or English. Attach to the application.
 
b) Record of previous education in music. Attach to the application.
 
2. Portfolio
In this programme the emphasis is on society´s multiple needs as well as the needs of the cultural environment. The programme is for versatile and creative musicians who want to use their talents and skills in working with others in diverse ways.
 
The Portfolio should give a good sample of the applicants earlier studies and work and demonstrate their talents and ideas about the forthcoming studies. The portfolio can either be in digital or physical form. If the applicant chooses to submit a digital portfolio he/she can upload PDF files and /or links to external websites, videos, audios, images etc. Physical portfolios must be handed in / sent to the Music Department Office. 

Admission Process

Applications are evaluated on the basis of general requirements
  • The portfolio will be evaluated by the admissions committee
  • Evaluation exam in music theory:  May 4th, 2024 
  • Interviews, workshop and instrumental / vocal auditions: May 5th -  6th, 2024
  • Final results: Before end of May 2024
 

Admission Requirements

General requirements
Basic qualification for acceptance into the IUA is a secondary school exam (Icelandic: Stúdentspróf) or completion of an equivalent program. 
Applicants who do not meet these general requirements must demonstrate maturity and knowledge which can be evaluated as equivalent to the missing education. 
 
Specific requirements
In addition to the general requirements, applicants must meet additional requirements regarding their knowledge of music.  The assessment criteria are that the applicant has completed a secondary level according to the national music school curriculum guide or the equivalent.
All those who meet the general requirements attend an evaluation exam in music theory, harmonic analysis and aural skills.
Language Requirements
The programme is conducted in Icelandic.
