Welcome to the opening of Við mið // at present in Listasafn Sigurjóns Ólafssonar on Friday 13th April at 17:00. Collaborative Project of the National Gallery of Iceland, Iceland University of the Arts and the University of Iceland at the Sigurjón Ólafsson Museum

New works by MA Fine Art students from the Iceland University of the Arts engage in a dialogue with the sculptures of Sigurjón Ólafsson. The curatorial team consists of MA students in Art Theory from the University of Iceland. The exhibition is a result of a collaboration of the National Gallery of Iceland, Iceland University of the Arts and the University of Iceland.

The exhibition will be open:
14th - 15th April: 14:00 - 17:00
21st - 22nd April: 14:00 - 17:00

In the exhibition At present nothing stands still. There is a friction between time and space. The works connect beyond the realm of language and we invite the viewer to glimpse into the creation and expression that resides in materials. Collaboration and the diffuse dialogue takes center stage as the past becomes present. The sculptural works of Sigurjón Ólafsson, the museum his widow Birgitta Spur established after his death, the history of the location it’s built on, as well as the surrounding environment are the sources for new creation. A polyvocal dialogue between new works of the MA students of the Iceland University of the Arts and the artwork of Sigurjón Ólafsson takes place and resonates beyond the ambit of modernism and into the present.  The building, which today houses the museum of Sigurjón Ólafsson, has, over the years taken shape by means of the different activities that have taken place within it. As the framework for the pieces exhibited here, it also transforms. When we are standing in the exhibition At present, we are a part of the ever-changing set.
