Performing Arts students on the city's stages

Recently graduated playwrights are now taking the performing arts world by storm, premiering one work after another on the city's stages.

Last weekend, Katrín Lóa Hafsteinsdóttir premiered her work Mergur at Tjarnarbíó, which was Katrín Lóa's graduation work from the playwrighting program in the spring of 2024.

The National Theatre's large stage hosted the premiere of the musical Ormstunga, which Hafsteinn Níelsson wrote together with Ólíver Þorsteinsson. The work first saw the light of day as Hafsteinn's solo work in his second year of the playwrighting program in the fall of 2023.

Next weekend, two dedicated students will premiere their works in collaboration with the City Theatre. Erna Kanema Mashinkila is the author and director of the work, When I See You, I See Me at the New Stage, which was also Kanema's graduation work in the fall of 2023. The Little Stage will then premiere the work, Not an Idea, directed by Egill Andrason, who graduated in the spring of 2024.

With them on the team, both on and off stage, you can find more talented dedicated students of the department. It gives us inspiration and immeasurable pleasure to see our students working and creating together. We sincerely congratulate them all and their fellow students on their graduation and encourage everyone to see the diverse work of this new generation.
