Hot springs are a unique natural phenomenon, and an important resource and energy source. An artists’ residence, with the emphasis on hot springs, is located east of the Varmá river at the Reykjafoss falls. On the other side of the river is the town park. A new footbridge across the river establishes new connections within a diverse leisure area whose focus is the river. The building stands partly on concrete slabs, and partly on columns that extend down into the water and comprise part of the bridge. From there it is possible to dabble one’s toes in the river, or wade, or jump in the direction of Reykjafoss. Inside the building is a café, a gallery and studios on the one hand, and on the other accommodation for artists and scientists. Every indoor space is connected to an outside space, with different qualities and functions.
