About the programme
The main goal of the course is to provide students with solid knowledge and skills on their instrument. Learning to play a classical instrument requires a lot from students, but in order to be admitted, you must already have a significant music school experience behind you. Students are expected to practice systematically and regularly so that they get a good overview of the material on which the extensive curriculum is based. Emphasis is placed on students deepening their understanding of techniques, methods and different styles in music, its performance and interpretation. The program is personal and individual-oriented, and aims for the student to develop an intuitive and personal style in his interpretation of all kinds of classical music. Students are also able to add elective courses in the diverse field of playing instruments and studying, and can thus broaden their field of work after completing their studies.
Study structure
The program is a three-year bachelor's degree (BMus). Students attend private and group lessons with excellent artists, national and foreign. The main focus is on live performance of music, so students have the opportunity to perform regularly at public concerts and master classes both as soloists and in chamber and ensemble groups of various kinds. Also, participation in the concerts of the composition department offers invaluable experience in the performance of new music. Courses in the basics of instrument teaching make the studies at the department even more varied, useful and interesting. Training in stage performance is also offered, which is useful on the concert stage. There is a strong collaboration with foreign conservatories, which enables students to participate in international projects.
After graduation
Instrumental studies at LHÍ's Music Department provide a good foundation for continued studies in instrumental performance at master's level at foreign conservatories. Those students who intend to focus on teaching also have easy access to a master's program at LHÍ in pedagogy (M.Ed).
