About the programme

The Additional Diploma in Arts and Welfare is a 60-credit practical study program for those interested in learning about ways to use the arts for social and health promotion.

The self-evident focus in society on increased access for everyone to artistic creation and art events calls for a targeted structure and for a large number of people with knowledge in the field of art and welfare.

The goal of the program is to provide insight into possibilities for enhancing the accessibility and participation of different groups in arts-related projects and events.

The emphasis is on developing new ways of interdisciplinary collaboration between institutions, non-profit organizations and artists in work that takes place in ever-changing circumstances with a diverse group of individuals.

Admission requirements

The program is based on a variety of courses, which include theories of inclusion, art therapy, and arts in society, in addition to students attending workshops and conducting fieldwork.

The program consists of 60 credits and is a full-time program for one year. It is possible to extend the study period with fewer credits per year. However, the program must be completed in a maximum of double the study period.

The language of instruction is Icelandic

After graduation

After completing studies in arts and welfare, students have gained knowledge and experience in working with different groups on art-related projects.

It is possible to have a diploma program assessed as part of an MA program in Arts and Welfare if the admission requirements are met.

Application and admission process

All applications for study are submitted through the application portal and all communication regarding the application process will take place there. The application fee is paid in the last step of the online application and is ISK 5.000.
