The European Commission has integrated various educational, training, sports and youth initiatives under a single programme, the Erasmus +. With a budget of nearly €14,7 billion for the period 2014 to 2020, the new programme replaces the previous Lifelong Learning education and training programme, Youth in Action, as well as several smaller international higher education programmes.
Iceland University of the Arts participates in this programme, allowing students to apply for grants for exchange studies and internships in Europe. Additionally, staff members have the opportunity to apply for grants for teaching and training abroad.
The ERASMUS+ offers grants to travel between all participating countries in the programme. This includes the 27 European Union countries, the EFTA countries, Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway, in addition to Turkey and Macedonia.
