There is a tension in threading a pearl onto a needle which distracts from the tension of the body, undoes the knots of the stomach. I attempt to transform disquiet into shapes without transferring the disquiet itself. The transformation of feelings onto canvas is soothing, a process which creates calm. The search is for flow and balance within images, within shapes, within the ribs. The shapes are supposed to be in conversation, to raise their voices without squabbling. Calm and chaos are not total opposites; they can happen simultaneously. It’s fun to jumble the balance of emotions.
