Nominations for the Icelandic Design Award 2025

The Icelandic Design Award will be presented at a ceremony in Gróska on Thursday. November 6th 2025The award is given for outstanding works in the fields of design and architecture that contribute to quality of life, sustainability and value creation for society.

Nominations are made in three categories: Items, Place og Verk, and in each category there are three nominees. The projects reflect the diversity and quality of Icelandic design today – from innovation in the use of materials to social solutions and experience design.

Nominations 2025:

• Be:
  • Oasis– clay water container by Johanna Seelemann
  • FAITH– clothing line made from Icelandic wool from RANRA
  • Elja– mountain bike from Lauf Cycles
• Location:
  • Community housing on the Seamen's School Field
  • Elliðaár Station in Elliðaárdalur
  • Pole – (Re)interpretation of a superstructure over an excavation in Þjórsárdalur
• Work:
  • Lavaforming– research into the use of lava in architectural design
  • Depth– plastic-free paint made from calcareous algae
  • Fischersund– a sensory work that combines scent, music and art

In addition to the main prize, the Icelandic Design Award Honorary Award and recognition for the best investment in design will be presented.
