"I'm surrounded by the sea. He's seducing me. I want nothing more than to sink into him. I'm surrounded by the sea and he knows it. We have a spiritually abusive relationship between the sea and me. If I don't give in a little, he'll pull me down by force. I don't always know if I would fight back. I have a feeling that would only make it worse. But I give in so that he doesn't pull too hard. Then at least I can

Freyja Rein works with the tension that occurs when opposites meet. Between flexibility and fragility, the very personal and the political. In her art, she examines the human condition and how the individual copes with the self in the wake of trauma. In art, there is an opportunity to open doors to mutual understanding and create a tangible context, where conversation can take place, no matter how heavy or sensitive.

The exhibition is part of a series of solo exhibitions by BA students in their third year in art, which will take place between September 25 and November 27, 2025.

Student solo exhibitions are part of the course Professors' Workshops supervised by Sirra Sigrún Sigurðardóttir. Teachers Hekla Dögg Jónsdóttir and Styrmir Örn Guðmundsson.

Freyja Rein works with the tension that occurs when opposites meet. Between pliancy and rigidity, between the deeply personal and the political. In her artistic practice she seeks to understand the human condition and how the individual deals with the self in the aftermath of trauma. Within the arts there is an opportunity to open doors into mutual understanding, thus creating a tangible context, where conversations can be had, no matter how heavy or delicate.
