The Young Soloists Concert is a true harvest festival, featuring the students who were the most successful in the soloist and solo singing competition of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and the Iceland Academy of the Arts. The competition is open to all university-level music students, regardless of which school they attend. It is safe to say that those performing here are the future of Icelandic music and it is exciting to watch them take their first steps into a professional career.
The conductor of the concert is Georgian Mirian Khukhunaishvili, who completed his doctoral studies in conducting at the Academy of Music in Krakow, Poland, in 2020. Khukhunaishvili has won one conducting competition after another in recent years. He places great emphasis on working with young people and is the founder and music director of the Tbilisi Youth Orchestra and is the choirmaster of the Iceland Academy of the Arts choir, where he also teaches conducting.
A unique atmosphere characterizes this concert, and anticipation is always high when the winners take the stage with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra in Eldborg.
