Myndlistardeild Listaháskóla Íslands tekur virkan þátt í alþjóðlegu samstarfi. Deildin hefur gert tvíhliða samning við þrjátíu og sjö háskóla í Evrópu á vegum Erasmus/Sókrates menntaáætlunarinnar auk þess að eiga samskipti við listaháskóla vestan hafs í gegnum styrktarkerfi Fulbright. Innan Nordplus er myndlistardeild þátttakandi í KUNO, samstarfsneti sautján myndlistarháskóla á Norðurlöndunum og í Eystrasaltsríkjunum. Samstarfið byggir á kennara- og nemendaskiptum auk annarra samvinnuverkefna. Þá hefur myndlistardeild stofnað til fjölda samstarfsverkefna við aðrar háskóla og listastofnanir hér á landi. Myndlistardeild hefur átt samstarfi við námsleið í Listfræði við HÍ um fræðihluta náms við deildina, bæði á BA og MA stigi og einnig við námsleið í Ritlist á MA stigi.

Dæmi um langtíma samstarfsverkefni myndlistardeildar á MA stigi:

  • Talk-series: Is a collaboration between the Reykjavík Art Museum, the Icelandic Art Centre and the department of Fine Art at IAA. The focus is on creating a platform in Iceland for an establishing international network and discussion through series of lectures by internationally established artists, curators and theoreticians.
     
  • Verksmiðjan Hjalteyri Studio: This is a collaboration between the MA programme in Fine Art at IAA and Verksmiðjan at Hjalteyri, an art complex formerly a herring factory in the North of Iceland. The emphasis in this workshop is on responding to the local environment and the factory building itself. In 2016-2017 École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts Paris also participated resulting in a site specific installation between the two schools at Verksmiðjan Hjalteyri and a small exhibition and publication in Paris. 
     
  • The National Gallery of Iceland - Museum of Sigurjón Ólafsson: The MA programme in collaboration with the Programme of Art History and Theory at the University of Iceland work on a site specific project at the Museum of Sigurjón Ólafsson which is part of the National Gallery of Iceland. The MA students in Fine Art make art in response to the context of the Museum and curated by the students in Art History and Theory.
