Umhverfing

Verkefnið er staðsett á brimvarnargarði sem skýlir höfninni í sjávarplássinu Stykkishólmi. Manngerður bogi brimvarnargarðsins, sem tegir sig frá bænum og að Súgandissey varð innblástur verkefnisins. Hér, meðfram þessum grjótgarði má finna öll þau gæði sem staðurinn hefur að bjóða, þar þarf aðeins að virkja þau fyrst.
Þar sem varnargarðurinn mætir landi er allra nauðsynlegustu þjónustu komið fyrir, salerni, miðasölu fyrir Baldur og móttöku fyrir gistingu. Í framhaldinu getur ferðalangurinn haldið áfram og upp á trépallana sem veita útsýni yfir Suðureyjar og nálægð við hafið, eða gengið meðfram götunni og inn í gistisellurnar sem standa yfir sjávarborðinu. Ofan af trépöllunum má stíga niður og halda út að ferjunni Baldri eða þá snúa aftur og niður að haffletinum og ofan í fjöru. Ef ferðalangurinn vill staldra við eru veitingar og kaffihús við enda verkefnisins, sett í klift sem brimvarnargarðurinn myndar við Súgandissey. Kliftin veit í suður og mynda byggingarnar skjól frá ríkjandi austanátt svæðissins.

Timbrið undir fót er patínerað silfurgrátt lerki sem þarfnast ekki meðhöndlunar vegna náttúrulegarar fúavarnar trjátegundarinnar, ásamt verndum sjávarseltunnar. Pöllarnir standa á fínu virki hvítlakkaðra stálsúlna, í sambandi við lakkaða skipsskrokka hafnarinnar. Þegar timbrið rís og myndar lokuð rými bygginga verkefnisins er það meðhöndlað á annan veg Þá er það tjargað, líkt og gömlu húsin í bænum.

Localisation

The project is located on a breakwall that shelters the harbor of the traditional fishing town of Stykkishólmur. The man made arching breakwall, stretching from the town to the sheltering isle of Súgandissey became the inspiration for the project. Here along this wall, all the desired qualities of the place can be found, they only first have to be aquired.
Where the breakwall meets the harbor the essential functions are placed, restrooms and ticket sales for the ferry, and reception for the accomodation. Subsequently one can continue along the timber walkways, upwards to enjoy the view and closeness to the sea as or along the street to enter the bungalos. From the timber walkways one can continue to enter Baldur or trace back down to the white sandy beach. Should one wish to linger the restaurant and café are placed at the end of the project, set in a south facing niche, sheltered from the sea breeze.
The tember under foot is a patinated gray icelandic larch that needs no treatment as it recieves protection from the salty sea. The walkway is suspended by a fine structure of white painted steel beams, that are in dialogue with the steel hulled ships in the harbor. When the timber becomes an envelope of the spaces of the program, it is blackened with tar, a traditional method utilized in the older houses in the town.
