In the Programme in Theatre and Performance Making, students work with the role of the theatre and performance maker in the performing arts, i.e. the director, the playwright and the performance artist. The main emphasis is on students developing an artistic vision and approach to the medium as authors and that they become independent and creative performing artists at the end of the Programme.

In the Programme, which is theoretical and applied in equal measure, there is a focus on the performing arts in the widest sense. The Programme is conceived as a platform for experimentation and research within the performing arts. It revolves around the history, nature, role and limits of the performing arts, their language and overlap with other artistic disciplines. There is a great deal of emphasis on students’ original practice and that they develop an approach and methods in production and practice that strengthens their vision of the medium. The Programme is intended to reinforce students’ critical vision of the artistic field, their environment and their own work.

In the first year, the main emphasis is on building a theoretical foundation where fundamental questions about form, traditions and methods are thrown up. Students become acquainted with the main theories about the theatre and other performing arts, in addition to the main theories in the history of ideas from the latter half of the twentieth century up until our times. Students direct their gaze to individual parts of the performing arts, such as working with ideas, production, text and body, how these parts work together and their interaction is researched, both through theoretical / historical observations and practical stage productions and experiments.

In the second and third year, the emphasis on students’ creative work, based on the theories and methods taught in the first year, increases. Students develop their own artistic vision and approach to the medium through work on stage productions and other stage works based on different approaches, such as non-traditional theatre spaces, devised methods and the role of the director and the playwright. The Programme is completed with a public final project and a dissertation.
